The Kindred Credit Union Centre for Peace Advancement (CPA) is a dynamic space that is home to artists, innovators, researchers and peacebuilding practitioners advancing peace in communities locally and globally. In support of #12days4good, the CPA will be co-hosting an internal event on December 18 with one of our Core Collaborators, Project Ploughshares.

At this event, the CPA community will hear a presentation from Branka Marijan, Project Ploughshares’ Program Officer, who does advocacy work focused on the ethical implications of lethal autonomous weapons systems or “killer robots”.

Through the campaign to Stop Killer Robots – which Project Ploughshares is a member of – technology companies can publically commit to not developing fully autonomous weapons – weapons that can select and attack targets without human control. Individual experts in related fields and NGOs can also join the coalition.

Project Ploughshares is writing an open letter through which individuals can show their support for a ban on fully autonomous weapons. After the presentation, Project Ploughshares will invite CPA participants to offer their support by participating in a photo campaign, as well as exploring other avenues for greater engagement on the issue.

The CPA acts as a bridge between campus and community, academics and practice, and faith and justice.
